OSWEGO, NY – Students at Leighton Elementary School enjoyed a colorful and fun-filled presentation recently from author and cartoonist Frank Cammuso.
Cammuso talked about the process of writing and illustrating comics, and how he started his career as an author/cartoonist.
He discussed the importance of hard work and perseverance, and talked about believing in your work, and that true creativity comes from not being afraid to make mistakes.
A highlight of the presentation was his drawing demonstration for the students.
A former award-winning political cartoonist for The Post-Standard in Syracuse, Cammuso’s cartoons have been reprinted in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today and Newsweek.
He is also the author/illustrator of the graphic novel series The Misadventures of Salem Hyde and Knights of the Lunch Table.
He also drew the comic Otto’s Orange Day and Otto’s Backwards Day for Toon-Books, and wrote and drew his self-published graphic novel Max Hamm Fairy Tale Detective.
Cammuso currently teaches Sequential Illustration part-time at his alma mater, Syracuse University, and lives with his family in Syracuse.
