Beginning Nov. 1, ALDI, the nation’s low-price grocery leader, will once again offer grocery shoppers a smarter alternative as the select assortment discount grocer reopens its Oswego store, located at 290 State Route 104E. Known for its premium ALDI exclusive brands, ALDI is able to offer high-quality grocery items at incredibly low prices.
The National Park Service today (Oct. 22) announced that it has listed the New York State Barge Canal on the National Register of Historic Places. The designation recognizes the New York State Canal System as a nationally significant work of early twentieth century engineering and construction that affected transportation and maritime commerce for nearly half a century.
Oswego County Traffic Safety Board and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee are sponsoring a certification class for new child passenger technicians in November. Students will receive a two-year, national certification, renewable on-line and with community involvement in child passenger safety checks.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County is pleased to announce the sixth annual Oswego County Holiday Farmers’ Market will be held on December 6 as part of the “Christmas in Mexico” festivities. The community is encouraged to visit the market and find great holiday gifts, decorations and food from local farmers.

On November 7, Paul Foster will be honored at the Friends of History Annual Celebration Dinner. Paul has a life-long commitment to both Fulton and to Oswego County. Paul is the third generation owning and operating the Foster Funeral Home in Fulton. He has been active in various community centered organizations that serve our community.
When it comes to world-class fisheries, you’d be hard pressed to find one that isn’t chopped up into special-interest sections. Oswego County’s Salmon River is a pioneer in this process, offering a place for every fishing taste. Its most famous section is at its headwaters a short distance from the Lower Reservoir’s dam. Restricted to fly-fishing, catch-and-release only, this mystique is more than purist anglers can resist. But there’s more to the place than just image.
Granby Elementary School students are hitting the ground running this school year, literally. A newly formed running club, spearheaded by teachers Jennifer Killian and Danielle Bovay, aims to get students moving on the path to a healthy lifestyle. The group meets for an hour every weekday and it is open to students in third through sixth grades.
The John C. Birdlebough High School’s fall play production will be the comic Western “True Desperados.” Show dates and times are Oct. 30 at 4 p.m.; Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m.; and Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 for students and senior citizens and $7 for adults. The play harkens back to the days before television when families sat by the radio every night and listened to their favorite shows.
This year’s Champion Award recipients for excellence in traffic safety education were honored at a breakfast recently at Battle Island in Fulton. The awards are sponsored by the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board and funded through the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
