The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee presented John Heretyk with a certificate of appreciation for his 30 years of service. Heretyk is a senior case manager at the Oswego County Department of Social Services.
Mrs. Pulverenti’s fourth grade class participated in a four-way videoconference called “Around NYS in 60 Minutes,” which connected classrooms from four separate regions of New York State. Each classroom provided a short presentation on their geographic location to the other classrooms watching, without ever saying their region’s name.
In keeping with October’s theme of Breast Cancer Awareness, Recognizing Oswego County has selected two Community Champions who are active in the fight against cancer in Oswego County. The Community Champions for October are Carl Emmons and Liz Lucas.
Dreary fall weather couldn’t keep the Phoenix community indoors on Saturday, as hundreds ventured into the cold for the Safety Expo. For the better part of a decade, the Phoenix Central School District Transportation Department has organized the event, which unites students, community members and local agencies for a day of safety and fun.
Novelis is introducing these manufacturing robots into its hot mill manufacturing process. The robotic arms will perform various machine functions, such as marking rolls of aluminum accordingly.
Forty employees from Novelis will attend a training provided by an ABB Robotics employee to learn how the machines work.

The fourth graders at Sandy Creek Elementary School experienced a little bit of Native American culture from performer and teaching artist Dave Ruch. Ruch brought along a handmade rattle made by the Iroquois and had the children guess what materials the Iroquois might have used to make such an instrument long ago.

The Oswego County Department of Social Services will sponsor an informational meeting from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at the Department of Social Services, 100 Spring St., for people who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents. Oswego County also needs Hispanic foster parents.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee presented a proclamation designating October as 4-H Month in Oswego County. With the support of the Oswego County Legislature, Cornell Cooperative Extension serves rural and urban youth through 4-H Youth Development programs.
