Students in Monique Ritter’s seventh grade English class were perfect examples of what philanthropists do; they give unselfishly to a greater cause. The students, after reading “A Long Walk to Water,” a novel that is part of their Common Core modules for ELA, decided, along with their teacher to join the cause championed by the book’s inspiration and main character Salva Dut.
Music students from Pulaski Middle/Senior High School traveled to the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse for a very special musical treat. The chorus students in grades 7-12 attended a performance of the critically acclaimed Broadway show “War Horse.”
Students at Lura Sharp Elementary School recently walked to nearby South Park. They decorated evergreen trees there with handmade holiday style ornaments that served a dual purpose.
Sandy Creek Elementary School will be conducting registration for the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes of 2014-2015 on February 5 in the Elementary Office area. This registration is for incoming Pre-K students, who must be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2014, and incoming kindergarten students who do not attend the Pre-K Program in Sandy Creek Elementary School.
CNY Arts Center’s third annual Snow Day is set for January 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year the fun will take place downtown at the Community Room in City Hall and across the street at Veterans’ Park.
“Many people resolve to get in better shape, lose weight or get on a fitness plan,” said Jayda Calhoun, also known as Jaded Glory, chair of PCRD’s training committee. “We offer a way to get in shape and have a lot of fun at the same time.”

Army National Guard Pfc. Carl M. Hurd has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is a 2011 graduate of Sandy Creek High School.
Members of IBEW Local #43’s apprentice class recently visited Oswego Hospital to deliver two wagons full of toys. The wagons, equipped with seatbelts, will be used to transport young patients before surgery.
Parents of Special Children, Inc., recently held its seventh annual Breakfast with Santa for individuals with special needs and their family members. The two-hour event was sponsored by the Fulton Elks #830 Lodge and featured a gourmet breakfast, arts and crafts, and a visit from Santa who had gifts for all!
