In an effort to find homes for animals up for adoption, State Senator Patty Ritchie is teaming up with local animal shelters to feature “Pets of the Week” from Central and Northern New York on her website and Facebook page.

The 518-mile region’s coastal areas along the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, Niagara River, and Lake Erie are atwitter with a diversity of birds throughout the cold season while it bare-branch hardwood forests offer unobstructed viewing of winter fliers.

A fund-raiser to benefit Brandy Ermini’s quest for the Miss Teen USA crown will be held at Bridie Manor on Sunday. Sound Junction Disc Jockey Service will be rocking the River View Room. Delicious penne pasta, vegetable platters, pizza, chips and dips will be served. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-16 and those 5 and younger free.

The meeting, which begins at 5 p.m., involves committee meetings as the curriculum, finance and personnel agendas will be prepared for the January 22  meeting. There will be a brief regular board of education meeting to address personnel and financial resolutions which need immediate attention.

In 2013, residents in the five-county area of Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, Oneida, and Herkimer counties packed 16,256 shoe box gifts with school supplies, hygiene items, stuffed animals and small toys for delivery to children ages 2-14 in areas of disaster, poverty, disease and conflict.

More than 30 of your favorite vendors and crafters will be at the Fulton Polish Home on Jan. 25. Admission is free. There will be giveaways, blood pressure checks and more.

Great Lakes Seaway Trail travel promoters invite cold season enthusiasts to visit the 518-mile-long National Scenic Byway region along the freshwater coastlines of New York and Pennsylvania to enjoy winter fun from wind skating and snowmobile trails galore to wine tastings and a frosty War of 1812 battle reenactment.

The Fulton Area Snow Travelers are a snowmobile club in Fulton. They have hosted the Whiteout Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swapmeet for four years. This year’s event will be held on Feb. 8 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Fulton War Memorial, 609 West Broadway, Fulton.

Guest speaker will once again be Kathy Flaherty, an expert in college financial aid  who will provide insight for students and parents who are considering community colleges as well as state and private four years schools.
