Ken McCann of Mystic Music DJ Service, presented Karen Perwitz, member of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County board of directors, with a gift certificate for a four-hour Mystic Music DJ Show. The Mystic Music Show will be available as part of the drawings during the post Blue Ribbon Ride celebration at Lighthouse Lanes on Shampine Drive in Oswego.

Empower Federal Credit Union is a “Triple Word” $1,000 sponsor for the seventh annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest. This annual benefit for Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County takes place on Sept. 20, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Oswego Elks Lodge. “Scrabble Fest helps raise awareness of LVOC and our efforts to combat the issue of illiteracy in Oswego County,” said Meg Henderson, LVOC coordinator.

The city of Oswego Fire Department is offering EMT Original and Refresher courses that will begin on October 8. They will be conducted concurrently with sessions held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, testing out in March of 2014. Tuition for the EMT Original is $775, the Refresher is $335.

The packing has begun. Volunteers who have already sent more than 100 million Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts filled with school supplies, hygiene items, and small toys for children in need in 130 countries since 1993 are packing again. Volunteer sites in Watertown and Oswego are hosting parties to fill more than 1,000 boxes to go to boys and girls ages 2-14 in areas of disease, disaster, poverty and hunger.

The Oswego Public Library will be closed on Monday, September 2, in honor of Labor Day. Beginning September 3 the library will begin its regular hours of Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Wings of Grace Ministry would like to invite all ladies and teen girls to a morning of fun, fellowship, food, upbeat music, and an encouraging word! This awesome event will be September 14 at the Sandy Creek Methodist Church, 2301 Harwood Drive, Sandy Creek. The church women are serving a free continental breakfast from 9 – 9:45 a.m. followed by our exciting program.

On October 29, Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training and SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations will gather women from across New York State for Connections, a day-long conference to be held at River Vista Center in Fulton. The theme is “Connect – Pursue – Advance” and will feature several speakers, networking opportunities, breakfast, lunch, a dessert reception, and a women’s marketplace.

Six students and two theatre faculty members from SUNY Oswego participated in August in the world’s largest performing arts festival, taking their production of “Desdemona, A Play About a Handkerchief” to the stages and streets of Edinburgh, Scotland. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival — a monthlong kaleidoscope of more than 2,100 theatre, music, dance and comedy productions — drew the SUNY Oswego troupe for a jam-packed 11-day trip.
