Students at Lanigan Elementary School competed recently for the crowning achievement of being named a Battle of the Books Champion and the opportunity to represent their school and the Fulton City School District in a county-wide books battle on May 1.

For people who suddenly develop mobility impairments, their home can quickly change from being a source of comfort to feeling like a prison. And, for those currently living in a nursing facility, a ramp can be the missing link that allows them to return home.

Volunteers gathered for a celebration in their honor during National Volunteer Week at St. Luke Health Services. State Senator Patty Ritchie appeared at a listening session on Fort Drum’s future and delivered nearly 120 statements of support for Fort Drum to Major General Stephen Townsend Thursday at a “Community Listening Session” held at Case Middle School in Watertown.

The Oswego County Health Department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified home health care, long-term home health care, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.

The state university system-wide award recognizes Decker — a 1994 SUNY Oswego alumna in applied mathematics and computer science and a 17-year employee — for superior professional achievement and service. The honor encourages the continued pursuit of excellence among professional staff.

Oswego resident Emilie Benigno performed in the Second Violin section with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on April 19. Home to the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts has been called by Frommer’s Travel Guides as “New York City’s foremost institution.”
