Commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 at the second annual Oswego County War of 1812 Symposium on March 31. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. at the American Foundry, 246 W. Seneca St.

The Oswego County Legislature proclaimed March 22 as St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego County at its March meeting. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation works to raise awareness and funding to support childhood cancer research and fellowship.

State Senator Patty Ritchie met with students involved with 4-H programs in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties. The students were at the Capitol to learn about state government and share their 4-H experiences with local representatives.

Several local residents are taking part in an internship this spring through SUNY Oswego’s Experience-Based Education Program.

Oswego County Legislator James Karasek (District 22, Granby) has been named to the New York State Association of Counties standing committee on Children with Special Needs.

The Oswego County Legislature’s Infrastructure and Facilities Committee reminds county residents that “road grindings” are sold on a first-come, first-served basis during the highway construction season.

Graduating high school seniors throughout the county who are planning to continue their education in a communications-related field are invited to apply for the $1,000 prize.

The War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden Trail was recognized by attendees of the 2012 Empire State Tourism Conference as the winner of the first-ever “Conference Attendees’ Award for Excellence.”

Organized and hosted by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, the free event will feature a variety of games and outdoor activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including basketball, shuffleboard, hiking, arts and crafts, a campfire and much more.
