Rotarians Hear About New Arts Organization

May 16, 2011 Contributor

At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian Carol Vescio, left, introduced Nancy Fox. Nancy, the coordinator of CNY Arts, told us of her mission to deliver engaging art experiences to the community of Fulton. Much is needed to get this project going, but the immediate need is to raise public awareness to the economic and cultural benefit of an arts center, to create a non-profit organization to operate the center and work to secure a facility to offer programming in support of individual artists and arts organizations. If you have any interest in getting involved, contact Nancy at 315-598-8812 or ArtsPartners@Ymail.com.Much is needed to get this project going, but the immediate need is to raise public awareness to the economic and cultural benefit of an arts center, to create a non-profit organization to operate the center and work to secure a facility to offer programming in support of individual artists and arts organizations.

Fulton Rotarians Spend Time with Watch Collector

May 16, 2011 Contributor

Rotarian Don Ross, right, introduced Ronald Kaplewicz, left, at a recent Fulton Rotary Club meeting. Ron is a collector of antique pocket watches. The pocket watch was the men's "watch of choice" from the 1700s until about a generation ago. The pocket watch was manufactured in this country from the middle 1800s through 1969, when the last pocket watch was made by the Hamilton Watch Company. Pocket watch makers assembled their watches in an assembly line manner long before the first car was built. Pocket watches were most often named after the cities in which they were manufactured in. Names like Waltham, Elgin, and Rockford were the names of the common dollar watch. Ron's advice to the Rotarians was not to sell an old watch for the gold in it, but keep it for sentimental reasons. The Rotarians enjoyed Ron's presentation very much. The pocket watch was the men’s “watch of choice” from the 1700s until about a generation ago.
