SUNY Oswego Class to Visit Haiti, Offer Mental Health Workshops

Rodney Jeannis, a Haitian-American junior at SUNY Oswego, plans to travel with seven other psychology students and three professors to Petit-Goave, Haiti, over winter break for the real-world culmination of a course in dealing with the cultural aspects of trauma.Eight SUNY Oswego students and three psychology professors plan to journey to Haiti next month — a trip that will overlap the Jan. 12 anniversary of a devastating earthquake — to work with community leaders in Petit-Goave on continuing issues of trauma.

Oswego Industries Program Participants Make Holiday Crafts

Program participants at Oswego Industries, Inc. have been working on a number of holiday crafts, such as tree ornaments, snowman paperweights, wreaths, and decorated containers for storing their holiday goodies.  Shown here with their handmade crafts are (left to right) Geraldine Hager, Lona Liverman, Dick Izyk, and Michelle Wallace.     Oswego Industries, Inc. is a private nonprofit agency which has been providing programs and services to adults with disabilities since 1968.Program participants at Oswego Industries, Inc. have been working on a number of holiday crafts, such as tree ornaments, snowman paperweights, wreaths, and decorated containers for storing their holiday goodies.

Preschoolers Engage in Dramatic Play at Head Start

Logan Wilder and Jayden Rawson preschoolers in the Phoenix 1 Head Start Program at Discovery Day Care are engaging in dramatic play.  Children are able to dress up and pretend that they are moms, dads, teachers, etc…  Head Start is taking applications.  If you have any questions about the program or would like to sign your child up for Head Start please call Children Services at OCO at 598-4711.  OCO Inc., is a private, non-sector agency that has been supporting communities throughout Oswego County since 1966.  OCO Inc., is a United Way of Greater Oswego County member agency. Holiday Poinsettias Enliven the Library

Fulton Sunrise Rotarians Hear About Camp Good Days

Rotarian Peggy Donnelly, right, introduced Debbie Allen at a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club meeting.  Allen presented a program about Camp Good Days and Special Times,  a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.  Children with Cancer or who have a family member with Cancer can spend a week at this Camp located on Keuka Lake.  There are also Oncology Camp weekends for adults.  In 1979, with the help and support of many friends and community members in Rochester, New York, Gary Mervis founded Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc., in honor of his daughter.  Camp Good Days & Special Times is the largest organization of its kind for children with cancer in the entire country. With offices throughout Upstate New York and Central Florida, it has accomplished all of this without ever taking one dollar of government funding.  Since its inception, Camp Good Days has served more than 42,000 campers from 22 states and 25 foreign countries.        The Fulton Sunrise Rotary meets every Friday at 7 AM at Fulton's Riverside Inn.  Allen presented a program about Camp Good Days and Special Times, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.

Oswego Health Finalizes Purchase of Lee Memorial and Phoenix Health Center Properties

The community moved one step closer toward realizing a newly renovated outpatient center in the city of Fulton as Oswego Health officially purchased the former A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital building, which now becomes known as the Fulton Medical Center.
