Humane Society Releases ‘Be Safe With Your Best Friend’ Coloring Book

Karen Hoffman, President of the Humane Society and Arthur Vercillo, M.D., regional president, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.  Ms. Hoffman is the proud owner of a rescued “mutt,” and Dr. Vercillo is the proud owner of a rescued Wheaten Terrier.Geared toward early elementary students, the coloring book offers activities for children with a focus on how to be safe with their own dogs and with strange dogs. For parents, it also compiles statistics about the incidence and costs of dog bites in the United States.

Professor, Students Study Carbon-rich Rocks for Clues to Mass Extinction

Diana Boyer, left, assistant professor of earth sciences, and geology majors Marc Collins and Ellen Wilcox work with black shale samples as part of a study funded by a new American Chemical Society grant. They look for clues to oxygen levels in the 300-million-year-old sediments that formed the rocks, part of the effort to understand what caused a mass marine extinction.The burrows of ancient, squishy animals, preserved in what now is black shale in Upstate New York, may tell SUNY Oswego paleontologist Diana Boyer and some of her students part of a story of marine life extinction more than 300 million years ago.

Mayor Visits Fulton Rotary Club

Rotarian Dan O'Brien, left, is expressing appreciation to Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward, right, in the above photo.  Mayor Woodward spoke to the Fulton Rotarians at a recent meeting, about the many improvements that have taken place during the last several months in the city of Fulton.  The Mayor was especially proud of the homes that have been renovated by the city and sold to young, and mostly first time home owners.  So far this year four homes in stable neighborhoods have been renovated and sold.  The sidewalk program, using mostly city employees, has built over 10,000 feet of sidewalk this summer.  Dan O'Brien also serves the city as Commissioner of Public Works, Water and Sewer.  Mayor Woodward spoke to the Fulton Rotarians at a recent meeting, about the many improvements that have taken place during the last several months in the city of Fulton.
