Rotarians Hear About Great Bear Farm

August 11, 2010 Contributor

Don Ross, left, introduced Dick Drosse, center, and Bob Hunter, right, at a recent Fulton Noon Rotary Club meeting. Drosse and Hunter are actively involved , and hold leadership positions in the "FRIENDS OF GREAT BEAR." The Great Bear Farm is a large area several miles south of Fulton. It is known for its large quantity of high quality drinking water, much of which serves the City of Fulton. The Great Bear has had a trail system since it was purchased in the 1960's by the City of Fulton and the Town of Volney. Several years ago, a group of trail users asked, and were granted the authority to maintain the trails. The Friends of Great Bear organization was formed, and today the trails are maintained and improved, thanks to the organization headed by Drosse and Hunter. Several miles of trails are usable year around for cross country skiing, hiking and bike riding. The area is well marked and is bordered by County Route 57 and the Oswego River. For more information, please check their excellent web site at www.friendsofgreatbear.org. The Great Bear Farm is a large area several miles south of Fulton.
