The much-loved Thai king, Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, has reigned since 1946 making him the longest serving current head of state and the longest-reigning Thai monarch. When the king and the royal family want to enjoy a beach getaway, they head three hours south of Bangkok to the Cha’am/Hua Hin area. International tourists, especially North Americans, usually head south, too; but to Phuket, Phi Phi Island, Ko Samui, and other places that are reached by plane.

Narnia Marks Regional Premiere At CNY Arts Center

With a cast of more than 35 adults and children and a musical version of a beloved classic, CNY Arts Center is set to open Narnia, a musical based on The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. Directed by Amy Price and music directed by Gina Holsopple, the cast has been in rehearsal for more than six weeks learning stage combat, English accents, and a beautiful score.

To my way of thinking the best beach in the world is in front of Amazing Ngapali Resort. When people ask us what our favorite place is we usually reply, “Where we are now.” However, there is only one place we have returned to eight years in a row even though it is a half a world away. For every five nights we stay we get extra benefits that include a free massage and a dinner; but, it is more than that. The staff is outstanding; the beach is wide and long with soft sand; the water is calm and warm, and it is very safe.

Oswego Players Prepare ‘Of Mice and Men’

Members of the cast of the upcoming production of “Of Mice and Men” are busy rehearsing for the late April opening of the play. Under the direction of Bobby Fontana, the cast has been hard at work preparing the drama for Oswego audiences. Cast in the leads as the two drifters, George and Lennie are Knathan MacKenzie-Roy and Nick Pike, respectively.

SUNY Oswego sophomore theater major Anna Richardson plays Thomasina Coverly, a 19th century teenage prodigy, in scenes from the past in the theater department's presentation of Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia." A parallel track in the present explores the fluidity of time and never-ending human fallibility.

SUNY Oswego Spring Play ‘Arcadia’ To Explore Time, Human Frailty

The SUNY Oswego theater department will explore the fluid intersections of past and present for two weekends starting April 24 in the spring play, Tom Stoppard’s tragicomedy “Arcadia,” featuring a 19th century teenage genius and determined present day sleuths. The Hewitt Union ballroom curtain will rise at 7:30 p.m. April 24 and 25, and May 2, with a 2 p.m. May 3, finale. The preview is 7:30 p.m. April 23.

Sandra Scott Travels: The Golden Rock Offers An Amazing View

John and I have been to Myanmar many times but the most amazing site in a country of many amazing sites is the Golden Rock. On our recent trip, we stayed at the Park Royal Hotel in Yangon. The hotel is wonderful with great service, a bountiful multi-ethnic breakfast, and a wonderful staff. The Golden Rock is amazing and defies the laws of nature as it balances precariously on a table rock and has for more than two thousand years.

The high-flying, club-juggling, rope-climbing acrobatic troupe Vague de Cirque will perform four shows in its big, heated yellow tent April 15 to 18 on the SUNY Oswego campus. Alumni of Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Eloize founded the troupe, whose current award-winning "Carousel and Clothesline" show meshes a comic story line with soaring athleticism. Vague de Cirque Acrobats To Bring Big Top To Oswego Campus

A circus wave — the English meaning of Vague de Cirque — strikes the shore of Lake Ontario when eight versatile international acrobats perform in a heated yellow tent on the SUNY Oswego campus with 7:30 p.m. shows Wednesday through Friday, April 15 to 17, and at 2 p.m. April 18. Quebec-based Vague de Cirque is the creation of Alain Boudreaux and Noemie Gervais, two accomplished alums of Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Eloize with their own vision for the popular art form.

Sandra Scott Travels: Enjoying The Sights In Mui Ne, Vietnam

John and I have visited many places in Vietnam including the beaches between Danang and Hoi An. This time we decided to try some place different – some place that would be warm. Mui Ne is about 135 miles due east of Saigon. After some searching, we decided to stay at Shades Resort. The rate was reasonable; it was on the water and had a pool so it fit our needs.
