With only a few weeks left until the premiere of Yes, Virginia…the Musical, CNY Arts Center is preparing last-minute details in costumes, sets and props with extra attention to history for the musical set in 1897.
The Peter Mahan family has been part of the Oswego Arts Community for many years. Peter, Kelly and their son, Stephen, will all appear in the Oswego Players’ Christmas season production of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” directed by Troy Pepper.

On our recent trip to Mobile, John and I visited the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park and it turned out to be much more than we expected. Besides the battleship there is also the USS Drum submarine, 24 combat aircraft that were used during and since World War II, tanks, a Vietnam River Patrol Boat and more. The USS Alabama saw 37 months of active duty during World War II, earning her nine Battle Stars.
“Twelve Angry Jurors” will be on state at the Robinson-Faust Theatre for the Performing Arts in the Oswego High School this weekend. The Oswego High School Drama Cub will be presenting the play on Friday and Saturday (November 9-10) at 7:30 p.m.
Last week I asked: What city is called the Azalea City? It is Mobile, Alabama. Recently, John and I visited Mobile, a great city with a lot to see and experience. Located on the Mobile River it is one of the largest cities on the Gulf Coast plus the first capital of French Louisiana. Our hotel, The Battle House, was in an excellent location and very historic.
Many people don’t think of the Statue of Liberty as a lighthouse but it was officially classified as a lighthouse from 1886 to 1902 and was the first American lighthouse to utilize electricity to light its beacon, which could be seen for more than 20 nautical miles.
There are nearly 100 lighthouses in New York State that have safely guided ocean, lake and canal vessels through the years.
The holiday classic tale is being presented through special arrangement with retail giant Macy’s, who created the musical stage version of its animated TV classic. With toe-tapping dance numbers and a chorus of town folk, the story is brought to life with veteran actors alongside newcomers to the stage.
Quirk’s Players of Fulton’s G. Ray Bodley High School are placing finishing touches on their fall, 2012 production, The Laramie Project. The production will be staged on October 26 and 27 in the Bodley Auditorium. Curtain time is set for 7:30 p.m. and tickets will be available at the door.
