Many people don’t think of the Statue of Liberty as a lighthouse but it was officially classified as a lighthouse from 1886 to 1902 and was the first American lighthouse to utilize electricity to light its beacon, which could be seen for more than 20 nautical miles.
There are nearly 100 lighthouses in New York State that have safely guided ocean, lake and canal vessels through the years.
The holiday classic tale is being presented through special arrangement with retail giant Macy’s, who created the musical stage version of its animated TV classic. With toe-tapping dance numbers and a chorus of town folk, the story is brought to life with veteran actors alongside newcomers to the stage.
Quirk’s Players of Fulton’s G. Ray Bodley High School are placing finishing touches on their fall, 2012 production, The Laramie Project. The production will be staged on October 26 and 27 in the Bodley Auditorium. Curtain time is set for 7:30 p.m. and tickets will be available at the door.

Hank Aaron. On a recent trip to Mobile, Alabama, John and I visited the Hank Aaron Childhood Home. It was built by his father, Herbert, in 1942 and is located next to the Hank Aaron Stadium. We were lucky Mike Callahan, the stadium’s assistant general manager, was available to give us a tour because he is an encyclopedia of Hank Aaron stories.

In helping to promote the Dignity For All Students Act, Quirk’s Players of G. Ray Bodley High School is taking a bold step. They will present the critically acclaimed production The Laramie Project this fall. The story is based on the kidnapping, assault and murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old gay college student in Wyoming.
I am not the chocolaholic in the family but while we were in Hershey John and I both received a Master’s Degree in Chocolate Tasting and have the diploma to prove it!
One of the many fun things to do at Chocolate World is their Tasting Adventure.
It is a multimedia presentation during which we learned to taste chocolate much like connoisseurs experience wine.
The SUNY Oswego theatre department production will open with a preview at 8 p.m. Thursday and run 8 p.m. Oct. 12, 13, 19 and 20, with a matinee finale at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 21, in Waterman Theatre of Tyler Hall.
Gardens like Hershey Gardens are wonderful places to visit. They appeal to people for all sorts of reasons. I enjoy the overall view of gardens appreciating the mix of flowers, trees and lawns, while John usually seeks out trees, especially bonsai, and others are interested in the individual blooms of the flowers
The 72 steps leading up to the Philadelphia Art Museum are called the “Rocky Steps” after Rocky’s run up the flight in the movie of the same name. It became symbolic of the ability of an underdog to triumph. Today, some tourists run up the steps in Rocky fashion. Others walk. The view at the top is great.
