SUNY Oswego’s Artswego will be among only five arts organizations nationwide to host groundbreaking performances, campus residencies and community dialogues in the first year of a program aimed at fostering better understanding of cultures throughout the many-hued world of Islam.
The river still plays a vital role in the community, and residents will gather at Minetto Riverview Park to celebrate the fifth annual “Magic in Minetto” Saturday, Aug. 13.
Love and luck by the numbers is in order this August as Fulton Community Theatre proudly presents kicks off their 21st Season with a revival of the hit comedy “The Queen of Bingo.”
City Band, under the direction of Donald Goodness will present a concert with the theme “From Bach to the Blues.” The concert will trace the evolution of western music from the Baroque Era through the Romantic Period, to Ragtime and the Blues of the early 20th century.
The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan will be presented during the 2011 Harborfest Celebration. The production will take place on the Family Stage at East Park. There will be two showings at11:00 and2:30 on Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31.
“The British are Coming” to the music of the Summer Sunset Concerts performed by City Band on Wednesday July 20 at 7:30pm in Breitbeck Park.
The ships will be in Oswego’s Historic Maritime District for the public to visit, 9 am – 6 pm, Thursday, July 14 through Sunday, July 17, 2011. The Museum and its vessels will be open the same hours. Friday July 15th will be Kids Day with activities geared towards youth.
The Oswego Opera Theater will sponsor its first golf tournament on Aug. 19 at the Tamarack Golf Club, County Route 1, North Road, Scriba. The format is “Captain & Crew” with teams of four persons and a “shotgun” start at 9 a.m.
Tim Ames of Oswego is July’s featured artist at Lakeside Artisans. Tim, one of the founders and president of the 20-member artists’ co-op, specializes in landscapes in acrylics.
Barenaked Ladies, presented by Constellation Nuclear Energy Group, will be the featured headliner on July 29 on the NRG Lakeview Stage at Breitbeck Park with local favorite Frostbit Blue opening for the popular Canadian alternative rockers. Frostbit Blue will take the stage beginning at 7:30 p.m. followed by Barenaked Ladies at 9:30 p.m.
