Members of the Rennie Harris Puremovement dance troupe will present dance workshops and lectures/demonstrations while in town to perform “Rome and Jewels” at SUNY Oswego.
Perhaps best known for their exquisite vocal polish and relentless energy, they’re also a band with substantial instrumental agility and are a noteworthy group of songwriters.
The trio — violinist Anthea Kreston, cellist Jason Duckles and pianist Rieko Aizawa — came together in 1999 and acquired Isaac Stern as a mentor after participating in the legendary violinist’s Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall in 2000.
OJP was the brainchild of SUNY Oswego music faculty members Robert Auler, who plays keyboards, and drummer Eric Schmitz. The core group includes fellow SUNY Oswego music faculty member Trevor Jorgensen on saxophone and bassist Max McKee, a SUNY Oswego graduate.
An award-winning choreographer and director, Harris transports Shakespeare’s story of star-crossed lovers to the gritty streets of North Philadelphia. The result earned a Bessie Award for Choreography and rave reviews for connecting the tale with contemporary issues.
The Oswego Players recently completed casting for their up-coming production of the family comedy, “Father Knows Best”, adapted for stage by Kirsten Sergel based on a radio play written by Edward James. The show is based on the 1950s television series of the same title.
The Amelia Piano Trio will kick off the season Sept. 17. The trio — violinist Anthea Kreston, cellist Jason Duckles and pianist Rieko Aizawa — were selected as National Public Radio’s ensemble in residence for their mastery and exploration of music ranging from Beethoven’s classics to John Harbison’s contemporary work.
