The Oswego Sunrise Rotary Club recently welcomed Assistant District Governor for District #7150 Jenny Doane. She discussed Rotary initiatives for the upcoming year at the district, national and international levels.
The Foster-Adoptive Recruitment Team at Oswego County Department of Social Services is searching for caring, compassionate people to provide shelter for dozens of children in foster care. “At any given time, there are up to 60 children in foster care and less than half of the teens in care have the option of residing in a local foster home,” said Stacy Alvord, commissioner of Oswego County DSS.

Applications for the PreK Program are now available. This program is designed for children who were born between December 2, 2012 and December 1, 2013 and is offered at no cost. Children are selected by lottery.
Head Start, a Pre-K program with Oswego County Opportunities, will be accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year. Head Start provides a quality pre-kindergarten program for income eligible 3- and 4-year-old children in eight locations throughout the county.
Headlining the fifth anniversary of live theatre at CNY Arts Center, Godspell will open February 17 and run through February 26. The popular musical commemorates the Arts Center’s first musical presented onstage in 2012 but will deliver many new faces plus a new set design.
For nearly 50 years, the Fulton Noon Rotary Club has hosted a high school foreign exchange student for the school year. The students arrive in mid August and return home by August first the next year. The students are ages 16 to 18 years old and are usually in their last year of high school in their home country.
Karen Goetz, executive director of the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, presented Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program Coordinator Carolyn Handville and Cancer Services Program Assistant Christina Wallace with a donation of $1,550. The OCO Cancer Services program offers a wide range of cancer screenings free of charge to both men and women.
A fair attitude toward others’ beliefs and opinions was shown by several Fairgrieve Elementary School students throughout the month of January.
