The Silver Key Awards are presented to county Farm Bureaus that have exhibited excellence in a variety of categories relating to effectiveness in policy implementation, promoting agriculture among the public and in classrooms, leadership development and membership building.
The Phoenix Community Band recently performed its annual Christmas concert before a packed crowd at John C. Birdlebough High School. Led by Director David Frateschi, a Phoenix Central School District music teacher, the band performed several festive songs to the pleasure of many Phoenix community members.
Members of the Oswego High School Interact Club recently assisted the Sunrise Rotary Club with its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser held at The Oswego Tea Company. Students, working with Rotary members, took part in all aspects of the event, including ticket sales, preparation, cooking, serving and cleanup.
Residents at Bishop’s Commons welcomed their neighbors, Riley Elementary School fourth graders from Judy Mooney’s class, for a holiday-related construction project. Gingerbread squares, frosting and assorted candies for decoration all came together in a creative way, with each team of students and residents making unique and tasty gingerbread houses which the students got to keep when completed!
An Oswego County resident has been awarded approximately $17,500 per year for the “Excellence in Education Scholarship” to attend Alfred State. Jacqueline Julien of Central Square is slated to graduate in 2015 from Paul V Moore High School and intends to enroll in the nursing program.
On behalf of Fulton Sunrise Rotary, Rotarian Dan Farfaglia presented a check for Fulton Wrestling to Jeff Waldron, Fulton wrestling coach. Jeff spoke about Fulton wrestling and how it helps the youth of the community.
With 100 years of serving the Oswego County community, The Greater Oswego Fulton Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Danielle Hayden of Oswego has been selected as the assistant director of the organization. In her new leadership position, Hayden will be tasked with executing the chamber’s renewed focus to provide services to members.
The selection process began back in October when students with a weighted average of at least a 90% from their freshmen and sophomore years were invited to complete an application for induction into the honor society. After applications were received, a faculty committee was formed to review the applications and assess the student’s demonstration service, character, citizenship and leadership.
The Oswego Elks Lodge #271 and Oswego ARISE teamed up recently to build three ramps for the disabled. The Oswego Elks made this possible by applying for two grants from the Elks National Foundation. The lodge was awarded $2,000 each from the Beacon and Gratitude grants.
The Central Square Urgent Care Center, located at 3045 East Ave., in Central Square will be open December 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Fulton Urgent Care Center, located at 510 S. Fourth St. in Fulton, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day.
