College invites entries for second annual Oswego County GENIUS competition

Central Square’s Paul V. Moore High School has launched a hydroponics project supported by its prize from last year’s Oswego County GENIUS Olympiad, just as it and other high schools prepare to enter the second annual competition, set for Earth Day on April 22 at SUNY Oswego. Online registration deadline for the environmental-science competition organized by the SUNY Oswego Office of Business and Community Relations is March 17.

‘Identity’ multimedia art exhibition to evoke impact of slavery’s scars

SUNY Oswego master of art candidate Mark Taitt will display digital print portraits in “Identity,” a Tyler Art Gallery exhibition starting March 28, that uses multiple media to pose the question, “Are slavery’s scars still with us?” A free public artist’s reception will take place at 5 p.m. March 28 in Tyler Art Galley on the SUNY Oswego campus. The exhibition will run through April 19.

Bishop Grimes To Host Invitational Academic Games

On March 29, Bishop Grimes will host the annual Academic Games. The competition is offered to Catholic School students in grades K-6. Event categories include: Math, Science, Oratory, Drawing/Painting, Spelling, Vocal, Essay, Religion and Lego Robotics. Eligible students may enter more than one category and contestants compete on an individual basis.

JCB Student Memorizes Shakespearean Monologue for Competition

Abigail Venskus, a sophomore at JCB, recently competed in the 26th annual Shakespeare Competition held at the Archbold Theatre at Syracuse Stage. The public-speaking contest, which is conducted by the Syracuse branch of the English-Speaking Union of the United States, commemorated William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday.
