Citizenship Awards recognize role model students who are dependable, responsible, courteous, thoughtful of both peers and adults, congenial, friendly, and who show school spirit and pride and respect for others and their belongings.
Abigail Venskus, a sophomore at JCB, recently competed in the 26th annual Shakespeare Competition held at the Archbold Theatre at Syracuse Stage. The public-speaking contest, which is conducted by the Syracuse branch of the English-Speaking Union of the United States, commemorated William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday.
The Hannibal Senior High Music Department will present a concert celebrating Music in Our Schools Month on March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the High School’s Lockwood Auditorium. The National Association for Music Education has announced this year’s theme “Music Makes Me…..!!!!,” a message emphasizing the important role that music education plays in our students’ lives.
Chloe Nabinger, daughter of Jamie and Missie Nabinger of Pulaski, recently donated hair to Locks of Love. Chloe, who is in third grade at Lura Sharp Elementary, had 10 inches of her hair cut to donate. She wanted to give to others that did not have any hair due to medical reasons. Army Pvt. Jacob Metcalf has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Metcalf is the son of Jay Metcalf of Syracuse and Maureen Maxam of Pennellville.
Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 21 recently presented New York Sea Grant Coastal Recreation and Tourism Specialist Dave White with its 2013 Wear It! Award. The award recognizes excellence in teaching the public about life jacket safety.
“Random Acts of Kindness” have been recognized recently at the Oswego Middle School. Principal Mary Beth Fierro and Assistant Principal Robyn Proud have been extremely supportive of promoting positive actions of their students. Throughout the year students and staff have been recognized for assisting others.
Proud Motorsports will hold a chicken BBQ fundraiser for Oswego Speedway rookie and 15-year-old Camden Proud on March 16 from noon until sold out at Lighthouse Lanes.
Selected pieces included Neil Roman, a fourth grade student, in mixed media with his “Camouflage Chameleon” and sixth grader Abigail Faul with an oil pastel “Frank” inspired by the work of Basil Gogos.
