Basketball fever is running rampant at the Fulton Junior High School, resulting in a widespread outbreak of kindness and compassion. What caused the fever? A “Move To Include” Basketball Game that was coordinated by the school’s Friends of Rachel (FOR) Club in cooperation with the school’s student council and a local non-profit organization known as Move Along, Inc.
On February 23, local award-winning author Rich Finzer and culinary arts instructor Diane Sokolowski will present a program on tapping maple syrup and innovative ways to use it in recipes. The program, which begins at 3 p.m., is sponsored by the CNY Arts Center and will take place at the Arts in the HeART Gallery in Fulton.
The Oswego City Firefighters raised the money by selling specially designed pink T-shirts in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month. All proceeds will be used towards medical expenses that uninsured Oswego County residents face when obtaining life saving cancer screenings and diagnostic services.
The Greater Pulaski Community Endowment Fund awarded $10,200 to six organizations that serve the Pulaski area.
Assemblyman Will Barclay criticized the Governor’s proposal of publicly-financed campaigns in his executive budget. “This is not the direction our state should be headed. I was talking to a friend about my plans for a new garden this spring which I want to make safe and enjoyable by my cats, Tom, Dick, and Harry. (It is how I get through January and February without going nuts.) Anyway, I mentioned that I planned to include a big patch of catnip and she launched into a long and angry lecture about how I should not do that because it is a “drug” that makes cats “high” and is not good for them.
SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station once again invites children to attend Exploring Nature, a weeklong nature education program held twice each summer. Since 1983, Exploring Nature has encouraged young people’s curiosity and concern about their world.
Students honored on the President’s List have maintained full-time enrollment and earned a quality point index of 3.75 (roughly equivalent to an A) or better.
For the month of February, Recognizing Oswego County is seeking nominations in the area of indoor recreation/physical activity. This might include a school that opens its doors to the community to provide an indoor exercise area, or an individual who organizes a winter exercise program.
SUNY Oswego’s Ernst and Young Lecture Series on Gender Equity in the Workplace will kick off for spring 2014 on Feb. 20 with an explorative lecture about the education of women in India today. The free lectures will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on selected Thursdays in the Campus Center auditorium.
