In September of 2006 Granby Elementary School welcomed a new class of kindergarten students. Now, seven years later, the school is saying good-bye and good luck to those same students as they end their final year in the elementary school as sixth grade students and begin a new chapter in the fall as seventh grade students at the Fulton Junior High School.

Steven Murphy, manager of licensing and compliance for Brookfield Power’s NY West Operations, presented a $500 check to Jackie Sheffield, associate director of the Oswego YMCA, in support of the June 29 Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest.

The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 827 students to the President’s List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Spring 2013 semester.

Music Camp is coming back to West Baptist Church, on the corner of West Third and Mohawk streets, Oswego. Our theme this year is ‘Catch the Wave!’ Campers will experience a fun introduction to the science of sound – and sound waves – along with some hands-on experience with rhythm instruments, recorders, and handbells.

Rep. Dan Maffei introduced The Incentivize Growth Now In Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs (IGNITE) Act  today, a bill to help Central New York small business owners grow and create new jobs. Maffei’s proposed legislation will enable individuals to create tax-free savings accounts to start a small business.

When restauranteur Laurie O’Brien opened Red Sun Fire Roasting Co. in 2010 with her husband, Will, she had a specific vision for their urban-style eatery. It was not until recently, however, that she discovered a chef who truly understood and shared her vision.

Herkimer County Community College awarded academic honors to 555 students for the spring 2013 semester. Included are 305 students named to the Dean’s List for earning a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79.

This spring, Mexico’s own Abbott’s Oh Do Kwon Tae Kwon Do triumphed at Master Kim’s Super Cup Competition. Of the eighteen Abbott competitors, nine gold medals were achieved, eleven silver medals, and three bronze medals. One student, advanced brown belt eleven-year-old Kiara Richer, took home the Grand Trophy for winning the gold in all three events of board break, poomse and sparring.

The second concert in the Oswego Summer Sunset Concert Series will be held July 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Breitbeck Park in Oswego. These concerts are provided free to the public by the city of Oswego and The Musicians Union of Oswego County. The Concert Band, under the direction of Kevin Upcraft, will be performing this week.
