Rotarians Hear About Salvation Army
Captain Kevin Brennan, left, a member of the Fulton Rotary Club, invited Major Ron Lugieno, right, of the New York Division of The Salvation Army to speak to the Fulton Rotary Club. The Major has served 35 years in the Salvation Army in various cities in New York State, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Head Start was created in 1965 by President Lyndon Johnson as an eight week summer program for young children of low-income families. Over the years it has undergone many changes. It is now a year-long preschool program that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to children and their families.
Each year, the Children’s Board provides clothing, school supplies, holiday gifts, or other items to children of families who have been identified as in-need. The group partners with school district nurses and Catholic Charities to determine families who will receive support.
