Decked out in their dress blues, the men and women of Fulton’s police and fire departments, along with Menter Ambulance Service personnel were recognized Wednesday evening for the work they do each and every day of the year. “Out of an idea, an investment was made and a seed was planted that has grown to be what is now our 18th annual awards ceremony,” Acting Fire Chief Foster said.

City of Fulton residents got their first peak at the proposed ALDI Food Store layout during the Common Council public hearing Tuesday as councilors approved a special permit to use the former Nestle’s site as a grocery store.
“Nestle’s is a great spot,” one resident said. “I would love to see the eyesore gone. Nestle’s isn’t going to reopen. We’ve got to get rid of it. When you come in to town you’re going to see a nice new grocery store, and that’s nothing but positive.”
Local Fulton grocers concerned about competing against a big retailer with deep pockets in an industry with already low profit margins spoke against granting special permit status to property on the city’s east side.
“This isn’t just somebody crying, ‘Oh there’s more competition,'” one local grocery store owner explained. “We’ve got competition. … We beat each other to death every day.”
The Fulton man who pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter for the 2009 death of a Camillus businessman is seeking early parole from prison on a medical release. Meanwhile, the DA and victim’s family and friends are asking for members of the public to sign an online petition to prevent LeVea’s release.
