The Oswego County Solid Waste Transfer Station located at 1167 County Route 7 in Hannibal will be closed for structural repairs from Monday, Nov. 6 through Monday, Dec. 18. The Oswego and Volney transfer stations will be open extra days while repairs are being made to the Hannibal facility.

Many people looking for frightfully good fun this time of year will find that the New York State Haunted History Trail offers visitors a peek into the paranormal year-round! The trail stretches over 400 miles through nine vacation regions in the state. It is the first statewide paranormal tourism program in the U.S. and contains more than 65 historic sites, events and locations where visitors can glimpse the mystical world of the supernatural.

In order to fight the importation, selling and usage of opioids in the Port City, the poverty crisis must be fought as well, said Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow. “We are trying to implement programs that will better position people from the start,” Barlow said. “If people are on the right track and feel good about themselves and have children, they’re taking the children to school, they’re going to work, they’re less likely to fall into that trap.” In Oswego City, 29 percent of people live in poverty, according to a 2017 Oswego needs assessment done by consultants at CGR Inc. The assessment was part of the Learn, Identify, Focus and Transform Oswego anti-poverty program established by the city and Oswego County Opportunities.

The New York State Police in Pulaski announce the arrest of two men, one an Oswego County Legislator, 51-year-old Shawn P. Doyle of 85 Lake St., Pulaski, and 73-year-old John James Maroney of 185 Leavitt Road, New Haven. The investigation commenced when the parents of a 15-year-old reported what they believed was an inappropriate relationship between their son and Doyle and Maroney.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Gary A. Bubis Jr., 37, of 393 Albion Cross Road, Pulaski, on Oct. 24 at 12:29 p.m. and charged him with first-degree rape, a class B felony. The arrest stems from an investigation into an incident that occurred in the fall of 2014 at a town of Albion residence.

The Port City will soon begin legal action regarding four borrowers that have overdue Community Development Office loans. City Attorney Kevin Caraccioli said it would be nice to see voluntary compliance on the foursome’s part. Going to court to recoup the unpaid funds could take months, he admits. The group owes approximately $160,000 overall. Initiating legal action against the four certainly sends a message out to others that the city of Oswego is serious about collecting money that it’s owed, he said.

On October 19, Oswego City Police Department was notified by the Oswego City School District Superintendent that he had placed all seven of their school buildings on “lockout” due to a suspicious image having been observed on social media that was reported to district officials. After consultation with the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined that, although the image (of a student with a gun) may have been suspicious, there were no direct threats made (or intended).
