Students Advocate For Safer, Improved Playground

The Council Chamber was packed Tuesday as nearly 100 Kingsford Park Elementary School second graders marched to City Hall with a message for Mayor Billy Barlow. The city-owned playground adjacent to the west side school has fallen into disrepair and the students voiced their concerns to the mayor and other city officials. There are some safety concerns, bad words that should be covered and other concerns, they said.

Council OKs Bicentennial Canal Theatre Project

The Common Council approved use of public space and funds in order to support and sponsor the Bicentennial Canal Theatre Project to be held August 18. The production will be directed by Steven York, and is an original dramatic play written by Oswego native Rick Sivers. The project has already received some outside financial support. The city’s share will be $4,000 or less.

Schumer: 1886 Malt House Ready To Help Industry Meet Ingredient Demand, But Their Growing Partners Need Security

Standing at the 1886 Malt House in Volney today, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer pushed the U.S. Department of Agriculture to expand access to malt barley crop insurance to growers across New York State. He explained that there are currently only four counties that have access to federally backed malt barley insurance coverage in New York State, even though farmers in other states have broad coverage.

He started as a sickly dog wandering in a muck and now has attained rock star status. Kevin was found in a muck field by a local dog control officer on Sept. 11, 2015, according to Margie Wentworth, the press secretary for Paws Across Oswego County. He will be traveling around doing some fun things to help raise funds and awareness to help other rescue dogs.
