On January 29, State Police responded to State Route 264 in the town of Schroeppel for a report of a two-car property damage motor vehicle accident. While Troopers were responding to the scene, 911 reported one of the driver’s involved, Kellan J. Meade, fled the scene on foot.
This action is simply un-Christian and un-American. We cannot tolerate racial and religious injustice. We must stand with our refugees. Yes, screen vigilantly as we have, but never abandon our commitment to help others seek peace and freedom.
On January 28, 2017, the Oswego County Fire Service lost a brother firefighter who exemplified the “Volunteer Firefighter.” Al Heath, better known as “Haz Mat Al,” passed away this past Saturday after a yearlong battle with cancer. Al’s career in the fire service started when he joined the US Navy in 1970 – 1976, serving as a Damage Control Specialist and later as a Damage Control Instructor.
On Jan. 30, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Fort Ontario Study Act, legislation introduced by U.S. Rep John Katko (NY-24) which would put Fort Ontario and Safe Haven National Refugee Shelter in Oswego on the path towards becoming a National Park. Katko was joined by Reps. Claudia Tenney (NY-22) and Louise Slaughter (NY-25) in introducing this legislation. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has introduced the measure in the Senate.
Mexico residents are urged to fill out a survey. A public information meeting will be held on March 2 at 7 p.m. in the Mexico Middle School Auditorium where New Visions will be in attendance to address questions from the community.
State Police arrested Ashley A. Prunner, 27, and Kristofer H. Pierce, 35, both from Phoenix, on outstanding warrants, further charging Prunner with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree following traffic stop in Syracuse.

Today (Jan. 28) at 9:51 a.m., members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to 5068 State Route 104 in the town of Scriba for a reported structure fire. The victim, the sole occupant, was identified as 81-year-old Violet F. Miner, of 5068 State Route 104.
The Oswego Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 7:37 a.m. today (Jan. 27) at Port City Logistics, located at 305 E. Seneca St. The initial dispatch reported an excavator on fire in the structure. Oswego Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 7:41 a.m.
According to the Oswego County Health Department, 74 lab-confirmed cases of the flu had been reported in Oswego County as of Jan. 23. More than half of those cases were reported in children 18 years of age or younger. Last week, the number of flu cases reported doubled compared to the number of cases reported the previous week.
