BOCES Leader Urges Districts ‘Stop Adapting, Start Evolving’

“Adapting means we cut or we trade this for that. We tend to be bartering within our own districts. We’re adapting to the situation and there’s not a lot of value added there. All we’re really doing is trying to make sure we’re putting out the best program we can for kids,” he explained. “What I’m proposing – it’s an out there thought – is we stop adapting and we start evolving. Evolution is adapting with some value added.” He proposes doing a large regionalized study looking at programs and program equity; try to do our best looking at fiscal projections.

New 680 Area Code Overlay Will Require Callers to Use Area Code for All Local Calls

Oswego County E-911 director Michael Allen reminds residents that a new 680 area code overlay is being added to the geographic area served by the 315 area code. Because more than one area code will serve the same geographic area, Central New York residents who have a 315 or 680 phone number will need to enter the area code for all calls – including calls within the same area code. The new calling procedure will be required for all calls beginning Feb. 11, 2017.

Three Convenience Store Clerks Charged With Selling Alcoholic Beverages To A Minor

On October 28, State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative throughout Oswego County. Troopers checked 11 establishments in the towns of Granby, Schroeppel, Palermo, Volney and the village of Phoenix. The detail resulted in 3 arrests at 3 different convenience stores.

Former AmeriCorps Member Serving In Africa

A former Oswego County AmeriCorps member has taken it to the next level. He has joined the Peace Corps and is currently serving in Africa. “Throughout my education at Fordham University, I had spoken with several of my friends, as well as attended several career fairs, about my post-graduation life. One topic that seemed to come up continually was serving with the Peace Corps,”Ben Boltz said.

SUNY Oswego Homecoming Celebration Set Nov. 4-5

SUNY Oswego reinstituted a Homecoming celebration in 2015, and decided it was so successful that the 2016 celebration has been expanded to two days. Homecoming 2016 will take place Nov. 4 and 5 at various locations around campus and the city of Oswego. In 2015, hundreds of students, alumni and friends of the Oswego college community participated in Homecoming events.
