With the arrival of the first significant winter storm of the season, the Oswego Fire Department reminds residents to take necessary precautions to prevent serious injuries. The National Weather Service reports a “very complicated” storm is heading our way as low pressure moves across the Great Lakes, resulting in frigid temperatures, blustery winds and heavy lake effect snow. Weather experts have stated the weather will change here in Oswego around 5 p.m. this evening, causing icy conditions and low visibility.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) announced Scott Ciesla, director of bands at Oswego High School, as the recipient of the 2016 National Band Director of the Year Award. In the wake of multiple bullying incidents that have been brought to light at Oswego High School, a group of parents banned together to rally for answers as well as stricter policies and consequences for bullies. The rally members came in the form of parents, family members and even a student that was bullied herself to face the board members and district superintendent to address the issues of bullying that they believe have become so predominant in Oswego City School District.
Mayor William Barlow issued his first executive order Monday night. The winter parking ban shall begin at 1 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 12) on all streets in Oswego, the mayor proclaimed. Barlow’s executive order supersedes the alternate side winter parking policy currently stated in the city charter.
In the SUNY-wide competition for project grants from the SUNY Investment and Performance Fund, SUNY Oswego will receive $1,025,000 for two projects, Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher announced today (Jan. 11).
