Fort Ontario to Showcase Unique History in 2016 Exhibit

Fort Ontario State Historic Site will open a new interactive main exhibit next year to interpret its role as one of the nation’s most historically significant military sites. The exhibit’s centerpiece will be a section of the original fence that circled the post during World War II when it served as the only refugee shelter in the United States for victims of the Nazi Holocaust.

Task Force Announces Ambitious Poverty Reduction Action Plan for Oswego County

Development of a comprehensive economic development plan is one of the first steps that an anti-poverty task force will take in an ambitious plan to reduce poverty and unemployment in Oswego County. The recommendation was one of many goals outlined in a consultant’s report to the Oswego County Community Health and Poverty Reduction Task Force earlier this month at CiTi, the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation in Mexico.

Old Man Winter returns at 11:38 p.m. on Monday – the first day (22 minutes, actually) of the winter season. Or is it? Temperatures Monday are expected to be near 45 and Tuesday’s high about 50 with showers both days. Wednesday’s outlook is breezy with more showers and a high of 55. On Christmas Eve, it’ll seem more like spring with rain and highs flirting with 60!

Cathcart Pleads Not Guilty to Manslaughter Charge

The Phoenix teen arrested and accused of committing a fatal stabbing at a party in Hannibal in October pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and assault charges at Oswego County Court on Dec 15. Markee L. Cathcart, 19, allegedly stabbed Sean D. Leonard, 23, at a party outside a residence at 99 Kellogg Road in Hannibal in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 24.

The Salvation Army Worship and Community Centers in Oswego County and Watertown are concerned about this potential heavy snowfall since this weekend is traditionally the largest Red Kettle collection weekend. Oswego County Salvation Army is holding an on-line fund raising event through social media. The Watertown Salvation Army is undertaking a 24-hour marathon bell ringing event at the Walmart on Arsenal Street in Watertown.
