Motor Vehicle Collision Sends One to Hospital

OSWEGO, NY – Emergency crews in Oswego were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at 10:23 this morning (Jan. 22) near the intersection of West Bridge and Sixth streets.

According to fire officials on the scene, the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the road, crashed into a house and rolled onto its side.

Oswego Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene and found the pickup truck resting on the passenger side with the driver entrapped in the vehicle.

Oswego Fire Department Paramedics reported that the male driver was conscious, complaining of leg pain, and was lying on the passenger side door with his feet pinned below the pedals.

Oswego Fire Department personnel made contact with the patient, stabilized the vehicle, removed the glass and roof from the vehicle in order to free him.

The male patient was packaged and transported to a Syracuse area hospital with lower extremity injuries.

Firefighters reportedly had to pull hoselines to protect the emergency personnel and driver due to fuel leaking from the vehicle.

Officials at the scene stated the driver was heading West on Bridge Street, left the road near the Beacon Hotel, and traveled through the hotel parking lot before crossing West Sixth Street and crashing into a home.

Fire officials said the home sustained minor damage to a concrete pillar, and the Beacon Hotel also sustained some property damage to its landscaping.

Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie commended his crew, saying “Our firefighters and paramedics did a great job stabilizing the vehicle and extricating the patient, removing him from further harm.  Luckily, no pedestrians were injured when the vehicle crossed the sidewalk and parking area.”

The Oswego Police Department also assisted at the scene.
