State Police in Hastings have arrested Rusty S. Hayes, 12/13/89, of 541 Salt Road, Constantia, after a report of shots being fired at the Dollar General in Constantia. The investigation determined that Hayes was attacked by another male subject after Hayes had exited the store, police said today (Dec. 6).
An Oswego County Court jury today (Dec. 4) returned a guilty verdict against Steven Szatanek, 33. The Lysander man was convicted of the murder of 17-year-old Anna Rose Shove at Brennan Beach in August 2014.
Standing before the aging I-81 viaduct in Syracuse this morning (Dec. 4), U.S. Rep. John Katko was joined by a bipartisan group of elected officials from Onondaga, Cayuga, Wayne, and Oswego counties, as well as local business, transportation, and labor organizations, for a press conference to the discuss passage of the bipartisan conference report for H.R. 22, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act.

The Scriba Town Board voted Wednesday night to approve a local law to abolish the position of elected town highway superintendent. The town supervisor is now empowered to appoint someone to the position, with confirmation of the town board. Several in the audience bemoaned that condition. Voters will have their say early next February.
The SUNY Oswego Department of Economics is sponsoring a talk by economist Laurence J. Malone of Hartwick College, titled “A New Revenue Source for Small Cities in Upstate New York,” to be held at City Hall in the Council Chambers on December 8, at 5:30 p.m.
The Oswego County Community Health and Poverty Reduction Task Force will present its consultant’s recommendations and a draft plan of action to reduce poverty in Oswego County on Dec. 8, at CiTi in Mexico.
The theme of the open house, which will be held in the newly restored and furnished Enlisted Men’s Barracks within the old stone fort, will be “A Soldier’s Christmas at Fort Ontario.”
“SUNY Oswego stands ready to assist our community,” Stanley said. “The direct loss of jobs if the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant closes would be one blow, but as it rippled through our economy, many other jobs would be threatened as the salaries and taxes associated with the mothballed plant and its employees disappeared.”
On Nov. 28 at 2:12 a.m., Joshua O. Kranz, 27, of 386 Bull Run Road, Altmar, was arrested following a multi-county pursuit. The chase began after an incident on US Route 11 in the town of Richland when the vehicle Kranz was operating nearly struck a Pulaski Village Police Officer. It ended on State Route 69 in the town of Camden, Oneida County.
