Oswego Students Planning Trip To Italy

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, Lisa McPherson, Oswego High School Travel Club adviser, told the board members about the club’s upcoming trip – to Italy. The trips are very rewarding for the students, the adviser said. “Getting kids out of this area really opens their minds … there is so much more out there in the world,” she told the board.

Volunteers Will Attack Water Chestnut Plants on Area Waterways

River guides, members of local environmental groups, and other volunteers will gather July 11, at the Pine Grove Boat Launch near Selkirk Shores State Park for a community water chestnut pull on the Salmon River Estuary. On Aug. 1, volunteers Dick and Naneen Drosse will lead a hand pull event on the Oswego River in the Battle Island area.

City Looks To Close Sheldon Beach During Harborfest

The action is being reconsidered to prevent any large parties at the beach, such as the one in 2013, which trashed the area. On the night of the fireworks, at 7 p.m., the Police Department will allow access only for viewing of the fireworks, and will close the area at the conclusion of the fireworks until 7 a.m. July 27.

Heritage Foundation Lecture On History of Oswego’s Cahill Building, West Side Pier

The rich history of the City of Oswego’s oldest commercial building and its many past uses will be the focus of discussion on July 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the J. Richard Pfund Boating Center at 11 Lake St. in Oswego. Mark J. Slosek, Oswego city historian, will present a lecture on the history of the Cahill’s Fish Market/Walton & Willett Stone Store and the development of the west side pier.
