Speakers at SUNY Oswego’s three 154th Commencement ceremonies May 16, will be the U.S. commissioner for patents, a leader in technology literacy and the founding dean of the college’s newest school.
Following the securement of sufficient State funding to avoid originally-proposed substantial reductions in Centro transit services, previously considered proposals to discontinue Weeknight, Saturday Night, Holiday, and Sunday bus services have all been dropped.
The Oswego City School District adopted a budget for the 2015-16 school year. The $82,847,754 spending plan was passed unanimously. The tax was reduced to below 10 percent. A public hearing on the budget will be held early next month.

Over the last several years, it has been very tough for many fire departments throughout New York State to recruit and retain volunteers for a variety of reasons.
Gin Blossoms and special guests Fastball and The Rembrandts will rock the Breitbeck Park NRG Lakeview stage on July 24 as the “Circle of Friends” Tour for night number two of Oswego Harborfest. The featured trio of Friday night bands will be capped off at 10 p.m. when Gin Blossoms take the stage. The special guests will commence with The Rembrandts at 7 p.m. followed by Fastball at 8:30 p.m.
UPDATE: The Oswego City School District Board of Education voted 7-0 this morning (April 23) to approve the spending plan for the 2015-16 school year. The $82,847,354 budget contains a lower tax increase than the draft budgets the board had been working on. A public hearing will be held May 5 at the high school’s cafeteria.
The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting motorists in Oswego County that a portion of Route 11 in the village of Pulaski will be closed in late April / early May for planned repairs to a drainage structure. Beginning at 7 a.m. on April 24, Route 11 will be closed to through traffic between Route 13 (on the south) and Lewis Street (on the north).
Amid a resurgence in synthetic drug use and reports from area hospitals on the increased number of patients being treated for adverse reactions stemming from synthetic drug use, Assemblyman Will Barclay said today (April 22) that New York State needs to enact better laws to keep synthetic drugs off the streets. On Sunday (April 26), from noon -5 p.m., VOW will hold its second Substance Awareness Family Education (SAFE) Fair at the Elks Lodge in Oswego, to raise awareness locally about the dangers.
The Princeton Review college-ranking service recognized SUNY Oswego as one of the world’s 353 most environmentally responsible colleges in the sixth annual edition of “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 353 Green Colleges.”
