Many Oswego County fire departments will open their doors to area residents so they can learn about what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter in their community as part of the fifth annual “RecruitNY” statewide initiative. Over the last several years, it has been very tough for many fire departments throughout New York State to recruit and retain volunteers for a variety of reasons.

Oswego School Board OKs Budget; Residents Share Budget Concerns With School Board

UPDATE: The Oswego City School District Board of Education voted 7-0 this morning (April 23) to approve the spending plan for the 2015-16 school year. The $82,847,354 budget contains a lower tax increase than the draft budgets the board had been working on. A public hearing will be held May 5 at the high school’s cafeteria.

Route 11 In Pulaski To Be Closed For Drainage Repairs

The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting motorists in Oswego County that a portion of Route 11 in the village of Pulaski will be closed in late April / early May for planned repairs to a drainage structure. Beginning at 7 a.m. on April 24, Route 11 will be closed to through traffic between Route 13 (on the south) and Lewis Street (on the north).

Barclay, Ritchie Call for Stronger Penalties on Synthetic Drug Use and Sales

Amid a resurgence in synthetic drug use and reports from area hospitals on the increased number of patients being treated for adverse reactions stemming from synthetic drug use, Assemblyman Will Barclay said today (April 22) that New York State needs to enact better laws to keep synthetic drugs off the streets. On Sunday (April 26), from noon -5 p.m., VOW will hold its second Substance Awareness Family Education (SAFE) Fair at the Elks Lodge in Oswego, to raise awareness locally about the dangers.
