Plans Under Way For 80th Anniversary of Oswego’s Lighthouse

 80th Anniversary of Oswego’s LighthouseThe H. Lee White Maritime Museum is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse this year. A Lighthouse Events Committee has been formed to work on several activities. The Museum Lighthouse Committee will be holding a planning meeting on January 26 at 2:30 p.m. Interested members of the community are invited to attend this meeting.

Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang advises residents and property owners near North and South Sandy Ponds to be aware of signs of flood damage to septic systems, wells, and homes. General information on what to do during and following a severe weather event or power outage, and how to prepare for severe weather events and power outages, is contained in the NYS Department of Health’s publication “Don’t Be Left in the Dark.”

Flooding Eases In Sandy Creek – Town Officials Continue To Urge Caution

Flood waters in the Town of Sandy Creek west of Route 3 along the shoreline of Lake Ontario are beginning to recede today (Jan. 15), town officials reported, but people in the area should continue to use caution and follow flood safety tips. The water has receded about 8 inches overnight following flooding that occurred along North Pond in the Town of Sandy Creek.

Town Supervisor Nancy Ridgeway, Town Highway Superintendent Mike Kastler, and County Legislator Margaret Kastler (1st District), along with Oswego County Emergency Management Office Director Dale A. Currier are monitoring the situation closely. “The town wants to ensure the safety of residents,” Supervisor Ridgeway and Highway Superintendent Kastler said. “People should be very aware of their surroundings.”

Oswego one of six SUNY colleges to debut Open SUNY

Stephen Aschkenes, a senior marketing major at SUNY Oswego, said the three online courses he has taken proved to be rigorous and collaborative. He was chosen to attend a brainstorming session on Open SUNY last fall. Oswego's two online MBA programs are among the first eight Open SUNY+ degree programs that SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher introduced during her State of the University address today (Jan. 14).The SUNY system has selected SUNY Oswego’s online master’s in business administration and MBA in health services administration to join only six other degree programs in the soft launch this spring of Open SUNY. SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher introduced the new Open SUNY+ degree programs during her annual State of the University address today (Jan. 14) in Albany.
