An “object” in the water sparked a search and rescue event earlier this evening. At about 5:30 p.m., Oswego Coast Guard received a call from someone claiming to have seen something in the water just outside Oswego Harbor. As of 8 p.m., nothing had been found and the operation was still under way.

The 2013 Central New York Scholastic Arts competition is the elite show of the year for talented high school students. In a split vote Monday night, the Common Council approved salary hikes for its president and vice president. The vote to approve the rules of the council, including the salary adjustments, was passed 5-2 with Councilor Dan Donovan and Councilor Shawn Walker voting “absolutely not.”
