Santa Claus will have no trouble with his sleigh tonight. “History is on our side for a white Christmas,” according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. “Each year we have about a 66.6 percent chance of a white Christmas. This year, I’d say the odds are a bit better.”

The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign is in the homestretch as Christmas approaches. But there is still time for you to help them help others. The kettle campaign ends on Christmas Eve.

County officials are mourning the loss of a colleague who gave more than four decades of public service to Oswego County residents. Arthur Ospelt, District 12 Legislator and Vice Chairman of the Legislature, passed away Dec. 18. He served in several leadership roles in town and county government. He is remembered as a strong and visionary leader who took great pride in the people and resources of Oswego County.

On Thursday at approximately 6: 40 p.m., the Oswego City Police Department responded to Palmer’s TV, located at 225 W. Third St., Oswego, for a reported robbery that had just occurred. First responding officers determined that one suspect had entered the open store, displayed a knife and demanded the money in the cash register.

The average temperature was 1.5 degrees higher than normal. Precipitation was very close to average and snowfall was 4.4 inches below average.

After a lengthy executive session Wednesday night, the Oswego Common Council passed a resolution regarding a five-year agreement with the firefighters’ union. There is no wage increase for the first three years of the new pact.

“We don’t know them. But, we mourn with them. It’s all one big family now; the whole nation is grieving together,” one woman said. One of the organizers said, “It was just a bunch of us wanting to get together, light some candles, say a pray. And the turnout is just amazing. I am so humbled that my community is so caring.”

On Tuesday afternoon, members of Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division visited second grader Julian Ross at his home and made him an honorary sergeant and presented him with a variety of military equipment, including a uniform, a 10th Mountain Division banner and dog tags.
