The Oswego County Health Department is working with health officials from the New York State Department of Health and Onondaga, Oneida and Madison counties to raise awareness about mosquito-borne diseases such as Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV).
A strip of city land running along East Schuyler Street bordering the Fort Ontario historic site in Oswego has gotten new life as a community garden. What began as a dream several years ago is finally a reality, site manager Tom Collette said.
Trade Act benefits are designed to help American workers who have lost a job as a result of foreign trade or production being shifted to foreign countries. The program is designed to help workers obtain the skills, resources and support they need to become re-employed.

Funeral details for Trooper Amanda Anna are as follows: Calling Hours will be Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., in the city of Fulton. The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the North Syracuse Baptist Church, 420 S. Main St., in North Syracuse. Graveside services at the cemetery will be restricted to family members and invited guests only.

“Things are going smoothly,” said Linda Deyo, market manager for the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce. “There are a lot of people starting to come in and we have a good number of vendors.” More and more vendors will join the crowd as the season progresses.
Nearly a dozen city residents attended the May meeting of the Oswego Community Neighborhood Watch on Wednesday night. They heard updates from Sixth Ward Councilor Eric VanBuren regarding the Code Review Committee and from former First Ward Councilor Connie Cosemento on the Quality of Life Committee.
Two men are in custody, charged with stealing televisions and cash from an Oswego County home. The arrests stem from an investigation into their alleged participation into an incident that occurred on May 9 where two flat screen televisions and a safe containing more than $3,000 in cash were stolen.
The project brings a massive ballroom, in-house restaurant and high-tech audiovisual equipment to Oswego. The project, overseen by hotel owner Shane Broadwell, has been in the works since the loss of their Captain’s Steak and Seafood restaurant in a fire in 2006.
Several blocks along the eastern end of Oswego’s First Ward were placed under the microscope Monday. Mayor Tom Gillen was joined by a half dozen city officials to get a first-hand look at what is right in the ward, what the problems are and where there is room for potential.
Four women were arrested Friday after they went on a shoplifting spree, according to deputies. Some of the merchandise was left behind in the carts along with one of the perpetrator’s purse and identification, deputies said.
