OHS’ Beckstead Shatters State Record

Oswego High School senior Drake Becksted shattered the New York State Public High School Athletic Association record in the prelims of the 100 freestyle as he advances to the NYSPHAA championship finals on Saturday. OHS swimmer Reeve Callen is among the top 16 in the 100 free and will advance in competition and also turned in a  lifetime best of 1:45.39 in the 200 free

American Red Cross Unveils New Disaster Relief Vehicle in Dedication Ceremony

Recently, the Central New York Chapter was given the opportunity from its donor base to invest in a new disaster response vehicle. The $90,000 vehicle was unveiled Thursday at the Oswego branch office on West First Street. It was purchased exclusively with donations.

The vehicle is used to provide disaster stricken individuals with a safe and comfortable shelter.

Council Paves The Way For Summer Events In Port City

Approval was granted for a request from Shane Broadwell, Tri-Oswego Triathlon race director, for use of several city properties for the Tri-Oswego 2012 Triathlon on June 16 and 17. A request by the YMCA to use of Breitbeck Park and the McCrobie Civic Center for a Sept. 8 event – Dragon Boat Community Festival – was also OK’d.
