Oswego School Board Wrestles With Budget Plan
The Oswego school board has challenged the superintendent to present a 2012-13 budget with zero percent tax levy increase, or better. On April 17 the board is slated to vote on the tentative spending plan. The public vote is set for May 15.
Becksted & Keefe State Champs; Hockey to Final Four & Byrne Leads Bowlers
State champions Drake Becksted and Cory Keefe returned to Oswego on Saturday evening celebrating a day which qualified them as the elite among their peers in their respective events. Meanwhile, the boys’ varsity hockey team earned a berth in this weekend’s Final Four Division II State Tournament and Cameron Byrne rolled the overall high series of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Bowling Tournament in Waverly, as the Bucs finished fourth.
AmeriCorps Members Work To Help The Community
Danielle Czyz is one of the more than two dozen AmeriCorps workers getting things done in Oswego County. “The goal of AmeriCorps is to bring Americans together to strengthen our community. You may see members serving in an organization that serves our community, a school, or a library,” she said.
Laker Hockey Receives Bid For NCAA Division III Tourney
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team was one of three teams to receive an at-large bid into the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament on Sunday night. The Lakers (22-3-2) will host a quarterfinal game against the Elmira Soaring Eagles (15-8-3) on Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m.
Oswego County E-911 Radio Tower Project Continues
The first order of subscriber units, portables, mobile and control stations will be submitted in May and training will coincide with the roll-out of the new equipment. Testing is scheduled to be conducted in June, July and August and the new system is on track to be fully deployed and accepted in September.
Oswego State Men’s Ice Hockey Suffers 3-2 Loss
The top-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team (22-3-2) nearly erased a two-goal deficit in the third period, but fourth-ranked Plattsburgh (19-4-4) held on to hand the Lakers a 3-2 loss in the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship game Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
Laker Basketball Falls In Double OT
This time their comeback was not enough. The 14th-ranked Oswego State men’s basketball team trailed by 10 in the second half and by five in the first overtime, but a three-pointer by 21st-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University with 2.5 seconds left in double overtime handed the Lakers a 70-69 on Saturday night.
