It would have been hard to ask for better weather on the opening day of the Oswego Farmers’ Market. An hour before the event started, West First Street was much quieter than a regular day; but by the new 4:30 p.m. starting time it was clear that people were excited to see what vendors were offering.
With the impending retirement of DSS Commissioner Frances Lanigan just weeks away, county officials took steps Wednesday to ensure an administrator is in place while the search continues for a new commissioner.
Mayor Randolph F. Bateman is pleased to announce the appointment of Police Captain Tory L. DeCaire as the new Police Chief for the City of Oswego. DeCaire will replace Chief Michael Dehm Jr., who is retiring effective May 31.
This Friday evening is one of the major musical events of the year. An “Evening of Big Band Jazz” will showcase the Oswego Middle School Jazz Band as well as the Oswego High School A and B Jazz Ensembles. This year’s featured guest will be Lew Soloff who is known for his performances with Blood, Sweat and Tears.
The FBI is investigating the Oswego County Clerk’s Office and its assocaition with Info Quick Solutions, the Clay company that has done business with the county.
The board of education voted 5 – 2 to approve extending Bill Crist’s contract through June 30, 2013. They also accepted several retirements, mostly from teachers.
The council approved a request by the Rotarians to use Leotta Park and the Railroad Tunnel on June 11. The event will support the many community service projects of Rotary. Councilors also approved replacing the word “alderman” in the city charter with “councilor.”
The driver of the vehicle was found to allegedly be in possession of approximately 1.2 grams of cocaine. Further investigation developed information which led to the search of two residences in the city of Oswego.
At approximately 2:49 p.m. on Sunday, Oswego City Police responded to 140 State Route 104, the Oswego Plaza, for a report of an unresponsive man in a parked motor vehicle. Today (May 23), the Medical Examiner’s preliminary forensic autopsy report determined the victim to have died of natural causes.
