A second fisherman who had to be rescued from the rapidly rising waters of the Oswego River has died.
Clifford Luther, 52, of Horseheads, died at Oswego Hospital Tuesday, a week after his rescue.

On Oct. 13, Oswego’s citizens are invited to help the city to envision their ideal city in the year 2020 by sharing their ideas with the 2020 Steering Committee and Bergmann Associates.
The tentative $189,363,300 spending plan shows a slight dip in the tax rate, down from this year’s $7.16 per $1,000 assessed to $7.07. Legislators will now review the plan and possibly make recommendations. A public hearing will be held before the Dec. 16 legislature meeting.

The first public meeting to address the city of Oswego Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) nomination study will be held at the City’s Common Council Chamber at City Hall, 13 W. Oneida Street, today, October 4th at 6 p.m.
They were selected to perform at halftime of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the premier high school football game in the country. It will be held on January in the Alamodome in San Antonio. Only 125 band and color guard members from around the country are selected. In the past four years, Oswego has had seven representatives.
Applications to attend SUNY Oswego set a 21st century high again this year, but the college held to its quality standards and largely kept the numbers of undergraduate admissions in line with those of recent years.

This year’s winner of the CNY Oswego Great Pumpkin Weigh Off was Matt VerSchneider of Freeville with a 1,283-pound entry. It would have even bested last year’s winner (Alan Nesbitt’s 1,229.5-pounder). This year saw dozens of entries with seven topping the 1,000-pound plateau and three were more than 1,240 pounds. Besides pumpkins there were plenty of fun and games, music and food for the entire family. And, of course, pumpkins – lots and lots of pumpkins.
