The weekend weather forecast has claimed the first and hopefully only victim of the 2010 Budweiser Classic Weekend as the Syracuse Nationals Super Cruise and WSEN “Party in the Pits†has been canceled for Friday night.
We are projecting more than 3,000 reports for the year if the pace of reports continues at this level. Last year we ended with 2,757. This is a 9.4 percent increase over 2009 and a 31.5 percent increase over the last two years. We’re averaging about 251 reports a month, that’s pretty significant, the commissioner said.
Oswego County Public Health Director Dr. Dennis Norfleet said this afternoon that a horse in the Town of Albion has succumbed to Eastern equine encephalitis. It is the second horse to test positive for the disease this year in Oswego County.
The goal is to not only bring the Oswego community together through Greg Mortenson’s book (Three Cups of Tea), but also raise awareness and encourage a world view that advocates understanding and tolerance.
There will be a 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. There will even be events around the state to mark the anniversary. But there won’t be a commission to pull the events together and promote tourism for those events, including events at Fort Ontario.
Approximately 375 freshmen got their first lessons at Oswego High School on Monday. The OHS Class of 2014 was welcomed by administration, teachers and students for the annual freshmen orientation. Students received their 2010-11 class schedules and were able to meet with their guidance counselors and have their photos taken for their student ID badges. Tours of the school were offered and a picnic style dinner was provided for everyone.
It was the worst possible outcome for an alleged holdup artist. The target of the holdup told him to get lost but he didn’t get lost fast enough to avoid being arrested.
Hundreds of visitors were able to sample the flavor of the Port City Sunday afternoon. A variety of area restaurants and others took part in the 2010 edition of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce’s Taste of Oswego, sponsored by Alliance Bank. A myriad food was available for all to sample – including a school lunch.
At 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, CNY Spirits will come to life. Staunch ghost hunters will still be up at that hour; others might just set their VCRs. Central New York Ghost Hunters will present TV series about local ghost hunts in CNY. CNY Spirits will air on Time Warner channel 6 for 14 weeks.
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker today announced the State’s first confirmed equine case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis, also known as EEE, this year. The affected horse was a two-year old gelding kept in Oswego County. EEE is a rare viral disease of horses and humans that is spread by infected mosquitoes. To date, there have been no reported or confirmed human cases of EEE in 2010.
