Street Closing Fee Proposed

At its next meeting, the Oswego Common Council will consider instituting a $150 fee for street closings. The requests usually are for times when the Traffic Division isn’t regularly scheduled to work. The proposed fee would reportedly cover the cost of the overtime.

An elderly woman was going to send a large amount of money to a location in Jamaica via Western Union. Police were alerted when the store employee helping the woman suspected it might be a scam. In another incident,Â a victim said she had answered a job posting on Craiglist.com for a housekeeper. She had to send money to receive keys to the house where she was supposed to start her job.

Oswego Moves Ahead With West Side Sewer Project

The Administrative Services Committee approved funding for professional services for the project. The DPW commissioner was also authorized to rentÂ a sewer main cleaning machine for the months of June through August with the option for September, and the employment of additional personnel for the same period to augment the workforce to conduct the required sewer main cleaning for the smoke testing and television inspection contract. The full council will vote on the matter next week.

Coast Guard Rescues Two From Breakwall

Coast Guard Station Oswego rescued a man and a woman from the west breakwall in Oswego Harbor on Saturday. “They were walking along the breakwall when they fell in the water from six-foot waves,” said Machinery Technician 2nd Class Jason Furman, Station Oswego, Officer-of-the-day. “They were able to climb up the rocks and cling to the wall until we arrived.”
