OSWEGO, NY – An Oswego High School student is facing a felony charge in connection with his alleged attempt to disrupt the prom.
On May 8, at approximately 10:29 p.m. a bomb threat was phoned in to the Oswego County 911 Center regarding Oswego High School.
Oswego City School District Officials and Oswego City Police conducted a preliminary sweep of the facility and found nothing suspicious.
Oswego Police continued their investigation into the threat and on May 10, at approximately 11:55 a.m. investigators arrested 18-year-old Joshua J. Johnston of 95 W. Eighth St., Oswego.
Johnston, who is currently enrolled as a student at the school, was later arraigned in Oswego City Court on a charge of first-degree falsely reporting an incident, a class D felony.
Upon arraignment, Johnston was remanded to Oswego County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
He is to return to court May 25.
“The investigators assigned to the case determined that the bomb threat was made under the misconception that prom activities that night were being held at the Oswego High School when, in fact, the activities were actually being held off campus,†said Police Chief Michael J. Dehm Jr. “Mr. Johnston’s attempt to disrupt the prom proved unsuccessful and, fortunately, no device was discovered and no one was injured as a result of the threat. I would like to credit the responding and investigating officers with a job well done.â€
