Construction Work Gets Under Way In Oswego Schools During February Break

This year, the February break may be much shorter than usual, but that wonÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t stop a major work effort from getting under way in the Oswego City School District. Work will get started at Oswego Middle School,Ã‚Â Leighton Elementary School and FitzhughÃ‚Â Elementary School as well as continue at Oswego High School.

At its meeting this week, the Common Council voted 4 Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 2 Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 1 to authorize the mayor to sign all contracts to hire Bergmann Associates to conduct the public meetings and revise the city’s 2020 Comprehensive Plan. The meetings could start in March.

A request by Steven Thomas for a zone change in the Second Ward failed to make it past the Common Council on Monday night. Neighbor opposition playedÃ‚Â a big part in the aldermen’s decision. The council also said it wanted more information about what the property might be used for. The zone change request was withdrawn from council consideration last year – also due to neighbor opposition.

Pair Sentenced To Prison For Fulton Thefts

The two defendants, Jack Lukens and Vickie Hughes, who were convicted Wednesday of stealing from two Fulton businesses, were sentenced Thursday. Both were sent to state prison for the 2008 crimes. Each received the maximum due to their lengthy criminal history.
