Little River Band To open Harborfest

OSWEGO, NY – One of Australia’s most revered rock bands, Little River Band, will be the featured artist opening night at Oswego Harborfest.

With more than 25 million records sold and 13 American Top 40 hits, Little River Band has been recording and touring since 1975 with hits such as “Reminiscing,” “Lady” and “Cool Change.”

“Little River Band is a great way to open Harborfest 2010,” said Tom Van Schaack, executive director of Harborfest. “They bring a string of hits that most everyone will remember and we look forward to have Little River Band kick off this year’s festival.”

Little River Band consists of Wayne Nelson (bass, lead vocals), Greg Hind (guitar), Chris Marion (keyboards), Mel Watts (drums) and Rich Herring (guitar).

Nelson has been with Little River Band since 1980.

Hind has been an integral part of the bands current sound since 2000.

Marion joined Little River Band in 2005 and shares a birthday with Elvis.

Watts, joined the group in 2007 and has toured with The Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels, Little Feat and The Hooters to name a few.

Nashville-based Herring brought his brand of “muscle” drum sound to Little River Band in 2006.

“We all have the utmost respect for the history of the bands, and for what Little River Band songs mean to our fans,” Nelson said. “But we always look for a way to bring something new to the stage. We’re having a lot of fun exploring new ways to deliver the songs, still recognizable and powerful, but with new twists that will delight those fans who like to listen deep and analyze.”

Founded in 1975, the group evolved from the harmony laden country rock group Mississippi.

From 1978-81, Little River Band achieved six consecutive US Top 10 singles including “Reminiscing” that peaked at #3.

The original Little River Band is considered to be among Australia’s most significant bands.

In May 2001 the Australasian Performing Right Association APRA), as part of its 75th Anniversary celebrations, named “Cool Change” as one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time.

“Reminiscing” was recognized by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) as one of the most frequently played songs in the history of American Radio, with more than four million plays to its credit.

“Lady” has also accumulated more than three million plays.
