Council Urges Oswegonians To Stand Up And Be Counted

Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion based on census data, according to Tory DeCaire, chair of the city’s 2010 Complete Census Count Committee. A lack of participation can result in the community receiving less federal funding and less access to important services and resources than it might otherwise have received.

Port City Seeks Firm To Analyze Landfill Site

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council will consider a request to hire a professional soil testing firm to perform a stability analysis of the slopes at the Legends’ Softball Complex landfill site. After a tour of the site last fall, DEC officials alerted the city to three violations that are to be corrected by Feb. 1. One has been fixed; it is hoped the stability anaysis will satisfy the remaining two.

State Sues To Shut Down Fundraiser That Worked For Corrections Union At Sheriff’s Department

New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo Wednesday announced his office has filed lawsuits to try to shut down four fundraising companies, including the one used by a local union, Stage Door Music Productions.

Stage Door, which has had an office in Fulton, has raised more than half a million dollars using the name of the union.

Gov. Paterson’s Deficit Cutting Plan Would Create Hundreds Of Little Deficits

Zone Change Request Returns To Oswego Council

The request to re-zone 134 E. 13th St. (southerly portion) and 140 E. 13th St. from an R-3 Residential District to a B-1 Neighborhood Business District returned for council consideration Tuesday night. The petition was withdrawn last year due to opposition from some neighbors. The committee favors holding a public hearing to see if there is any lingering opposition to the amended petition.
