Legislators Hear Report On Camp Hollis
Last April, Barry Leemann, chair of the legislature, appointed the task force to take a look at the camp and make recommendations for changes and improvements. Their suggestions included infrastructure, energy and safety concerns among others. They also looked at the camp’s fee schedule.

The legislation, to be introduced in the US Senate, is aimed at creating a federal program to assist areas such as Oswego County in hiring additional social service workers for child protection. The legislation is inspired by Erin Maxwell.
Schumer’s plan would provide federal grants to social services agencies so they can hire enough caseworkers to handle suspected cases of abuse or neglect. Schumer’s press release notes, “Despite three reports of abuse referred to the Oswego Country Department of Social Services and their knowledge of the deplorable living conditions, no effort was made to remove Erin from her home or adequately monitor her situation.”
